How to care your laptop battery

Laptop computers were designed to be used on the go and therefore have batteries to power them. At least the laptops that came around in the last decade or so. The first laptops were so big and bulky that there was no way most people could hold them on their laps. Now laptops are becoming lighter and thinner with every passing year.

Unfortunately, these are not the batteries you can just go pick up at the store and replace when they go bad. This means that you need to take good care of your laptop battery because if the battery stops working you may as well get yourself a new computer. This is mainly because you will spend so much on replacing the battery for any laptop due to the fact that manufactures want to make sure people are buying laptops instead of replacing batteries.

There are many ways you can go about caring for you laptop battery so you do not have this problem. Here are a few tips and tricks to make your battery use its full potential.

The first thing you should do for your laptop battery is condition and cycle it several times when you first get your computer. This will help your battery reach its full life potential and last longer. Here is how you do this trick: When you first get your laptop you need to let it fully charge and then take it off of the cord and let it fully discharge. You need to do this eight to ten times before the battery has reached its full capacity and you do not have to do it all at once.

Now that you know how to get you battery to its full capacity lets look at some ways of making the battery last longer when you are unable to get to an outlet to recharge.

When you are using your laptop on battery you should turn your screen brightness down to the lowest level. This can allow your battery to have up to ten more minutes of additional life time before you have to recharge. This is one of the most effective ways of increasing your battery life.

Shut off your Wi-Fi connection unless you absolutely need it. Believe it or not using a Wi-Fi connection can actually take a lot of battery power. So unless you are near an outlet or using an outlet try not to use the Internet. However, it is understandable that some people this is not an option and they need the Internet constantly therefore there are more ways to increase battery life.

Make sure that you shut down and exit any programs that are not currently being used by the system or you personally. Unused programs that run in the background will take up more of the processor's memory and therefore making it run harder. When the process runs harder it will decrease your battery life.

There are many more ways listed online that can help you increase your battery life. The ones listed above are the most effective that have been found. Remember laptops are made to last a while and be used without an extension cord but sometimes there are defects in the batteries. If you think that you have a defective battery call the manufacturer they should be able to replace it at no cost to you.
